Member Monday: Carole Smith of McCheek's Academy

Carole, the owner of McCheek Academy was featured on Member Monday a while back and I wanted to repost her today not only because she rocks, but because she has some amazing summer camp options for Houston tribe members.  And we all know this is the time that many of us are scrambling for things to do that don't bite ass.  Enter McCheek's Academy.  Her studio goes above and beyond the quality, design, and creativity of other art camps, this I know.  Check it out!  (nabbing my spot now, hurry!)

Carole's Bio:

I am finally doing what I think I should be in my life.  I teach and make ceramics, anything and everything out of clay, from soft clay to fired finished pieces.  My business is called McCheek's Academy and I'm based in the Houston Heights.  I teach kids after school classes, summer camps and Saturday classes and I also teach adults Clay and Cabernet and morning and evening classes.  I have always had to make things to keep me sane and now I'm teaching others too, it's a rewarding way to make a living!

Summer Camp 2014:

The kids Clay and Craft Summer Camp is a super fun, creative crafty time for everyone. The first week we concentrate on making several different clay projects using different techniques and while they are being fired we do one day craft projects, such as t shirt designing and printing, book making, print making, cross stitch, shadow boxes, etc. Once everything is fired, we paint and glaze everything, so the kids get to see ceramic projects from wet clay through to shiny, functional and arty pieces.
The classes are small with a maximum of 12 kids and are taught by Carole Smith in her ceramic studio.

There are two age groups for the camps:
6-11 year olds
Session 1:June 9th-20th
Session 2:July 7th-18th
Session 3:August 4th-15th

3-5 year olds with a parent
Session 1: June 23rd-27th
Session 2:July 21st-25th

What makes you, Carole, feel strong?

I feel strong when I'm exercising regularly including Momma Strong, running and some cycling.  Eating well gives me the energy and inspiration to do the exercise.  It all helps me to think clearly and gives me more stamina for classes, and running my business.
