I'd excited to introduce you all to Dr. Portia Jackson. I had the pleasure of chatting with her a couple of weeks ago for her podcast (which will air tomorrow!). And while the conversation was amazing all by itself, the prep and the organization beforehand was incredibly impressive. Talk about pro level. Portia reminded me that if you have a passion for something, you don't have to quit your day job to start it. You just have to get organized, focused, and willing to do what it takes with the time you have.
Dr. Portia Jackson is the founder and host of the Working Motherhood (you can link to www.workingmotherhood.com) podcast, where she interviews today's most inspiring and successful working moms. In addition to working in the financial services field during the day, Portia is also a wife and mother to two young girls (ages 2.5 and 7 months). In her spare time (ha!) she loves cheering on her Michigan Wolverines, wine tasting, and working on getting 10 pull-ups in a row.
What makes you, Portia, feel strong?
I feel strong when I lift weights, really heavy weights. Currently, I can deadlift 183 pounds and my goal is to be able to dead lift twice my body weight in the near future. As a female that grew up addicted to workout videos and running, I never saw my body get as toned as it has with lifting weights. The day I got my first pull-up (since junior high at least) was the day I felt my absolute strongest . . . until I was able to get 2 pull-ups! Now, I'm more interested in getting healthy and seeing how my body can perform as opposed to a number on the scale (and I'm now proud of my muscular thighs and C-shaped booty!)
