Research Project a la Nutrition in jail, continues.
Did you know that some research into addiction shows that the addictive behavior could be stemming from a misfire in the brain, in an area that regulates something called glutamate? AND, glutamate is something very much connected to certain foods and very much dependent upon the brain having the right types of fat in order to regulate properly?
Food can be a powerful tool in helping resolve and manage addiction. And in the jail, they are fed a very low calorie, low fat diet (although it's high in starches and seems like a lot of food), which can worsen any and all fundamental causes of their addiction in the first place (not including trauma, obviously).
