At MommaStrong, we believe that sustainable strength and wellness aren't motivated by traditional goals like weight loss, shiny happy skinny jeans, and six pack abs.  While these are all perfectly ok aspects of what moves us to get fit, we know—from our years in the trenches here—that what gets women to adopt life-changing self-care habits for the long term is much much much much deeper than that.

What motivates us to treat ourselves with care and to bring our bodies to their strongest expression is 1) how it helps us show up in the world and 2) how it helps us to engage in the world.  

Everyone deserves a second chance and we know that our physical bodies are a big part of where we get our inner strength. So when you show up for MommaStrong, know that you are helping other women-in-need.

Our current focus is working with incarcerated populations, in which we use high intensity interval training as a tool for recovery.  By using the function of pre-frontal cortex activation during physical exercise, we are able to help each inmate learn to "respond" rather than "react" to triggers.  The mission, then, is to reduce recidivism rates by providing them with real-deal stress strategies upon release.

"Today marks exactly 6 months since I started doing MommaStrong almost every day. Instead of focusing on "getting my body back" (which is RIDICULOUS and insulting and unattainable, btw), Mommastrong helped me realize that taking these 15 minutes for myself every day WAS my self-care, was my sanity. If I hadn't been told about MommaStrong, I probably would've jumped into some crazy fitness program after Daphne was born and would've hurt myself or caused prolapse or incontinence which so many women deal with for years after having kids. Our society pressures women to focus all of our energies on our appearance but then neglects to educate us about things like diastatis recti or strengthening the pelvic floor, and that's all BULL. I am incredibly grateful to Courtney Wyckoff and the rest of the MommaStrong community for placing zero focus on getting smaller and instead focusing solely on being strong in every sense of the word.
